This material test compares polycarbonate, modified acrylic, and cast acrylic for illuminated sign faces.
What the test showed
- Polycarbonate: extremely tough and bendable, though it can yellow over time without UV protection.
- Modified acrylic: strong, break resistant, and less prone to yellowing, making it a preferred material for many electric signs.
- Cast acrylic: more brittle and not a preferred choice for SignMonkey sign faces.
For most illuminated sign faces, toughness and outdoor durability matter more than just looking clear on day one.
